I began my fly fishing obsession on the many miles of small spring creeks and trout laden rivers throughout northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin. During college at the University of Iowa I spent the majority of my time exploring new water and crawling on the ground in search of native brookies and wild browns. I started guiding for the Driftless Angler Fly Shop on the exact streams that I honed my skills, all while still attending school. As those days came to an end and a degree was accomplished, I could not imagine a profession in anything else except fly fishing. After all, I spent more time ripping lips than I did opening books.

I continued to guide for the Driftless Angler and still do to this day. With over 700 miles of spring creeks and rivers in a two hour radius, I have a wide selection of water to take guests on wade or drift trips. My preferred weapons of choice for the Driftless Region include the S4 804/4, G2 774/4, and F 601/3. Not only are they smooth and accurate, they cover every situation I come across while on the water.

The wide open spaces and mountain freestone streams soon called my name and led me to the Roaring Fork River valley. Combine the Frying Pan, Roaring Fork, and Colorado rivers with countless high mountain lakes and tributaries, the fly fishing opportunities are endless. Guiding for Taylor Creek Fly Shop in Basalt, Colorado allows me to show people what these opportunities are and how to take advantage of them while on the water. I use the S4 906/4 and G2 885/4 to help me keep fish gracefully under control. Whether I’m drifting the Fork or scrambling up Snowmass Creek, Scott helps me snipe out fish all day long.

Drew guides his spring seasons in Wisconsin and Iowa then switches scenery to the mountain west and guides summer through winter in the Roaring Fork valley. If he’s not working or instructing you can bet he’ll still be on the water increasing his knowledge. Whether he’s pulling his skiff to the Keys in search of big ‘poons’ or traveling to Patagonia to target toothy browns, “a Scott Rod will always be between me and the fish!”
