Sandi started fly-fishing in 1999 after meeting her husband, Clay. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay area, she had been fishing since the age of three. Marrying Clay in 2002. The fly fishing/casting lifestyle became a way of life, and presented a whole new challenge for her. She has met the challenge and together they have fished all across the Western U.S. Some of her most favorite fishing destinations include the San Juan, the Green, the Yellowstone and Arkansas rivers. Other fun areas she has fished include the Texas Gulf Coast for redfish, and Alaska's Kenai Peninsula for king salmon.
During the last couple of years, the thrills, and comraderie of casting competition has taken center stage. We have so much fun traveling to different competition locations and venues, meeting up with old friends and making new ones. Throw in a friendly casting/fishing competition to test your skills that you have been practicing and it all adds up to a weekend of great fun. Her most exciting competition experience came in 2005. She won the women’s casting portion in both the distance and accuracy at the North American Fly Fishing Classic, and moved on to the fishing portion. Finishing 3rd.
Sandi loves to cast a fly rod. She started working hard on her 5-weight distance; she says she started practicing her distance casting more as an upper body work out than anything else. She still thinks it is great exercise and tries to practice at least 3 times a week. The practice has paid off! In February 2005 she traveled to Pleasanton, Ca to compete in the popular, I.S.E’s Best of the West 5 wt distance competition and won. This qualified her to compete in the national finals in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she placed 2nd over all. Later in August 2005 Sandi won the Women’s Open Casting Competition at the Federation of Flyfishers National Conclave in Livingston, Mt.
When she is not casting or competing, you will find her fishing on a river, with her best friend Clay or her son, Eric. It is a family sport for us. With Scott Rod’s community orientation, it makes Sandi very proud to be included, and be a part of the Scott Performance Fly Rod Pro Staff, along with her husband Clay and son Eric.
