Bonefish Andy Smith
BioAndy Smith is the prodigal son of "Crazy Charlie" Smith of Andros Island, He's also the top guide on the best piece of bonefishing water in the Atlantic Ocean. Andy is one of the most highly skilled and progressive minded flats guides anywhere. His skills as a boatman and angler are superb because he spends all of his free time fishing on his own or with close friend Charlie Neymour. When Andy is poling you up a flat, he is in complete control. He won't even tell you about fish he sees until he has turned the boat to set you up for an eleven o'clock cast and poled you into position. His eyes are X-rays, spotting bonefish in up to four feet of water and tarpon from three hundred yards.
No one knows Andros better than Andy Smith. Born and raised on the island, Andy has fished with a fly rod since he was a young child. Even if you have fished Andros for ten years, Andy will show you something you've never seen or imagined. For instance, resident permit and tarpon live in the far recesses of the mangrove keys, overshadowed by the bonefish which inhabit every flat. The tide swing is a full six hours from one side of Andros to the other, and Andy uses the bights to fish favorable tides all day long.
Andy is a leader among Bahaman guides, and is working to form the first organized guide council among his peers to standardize service, professionalism and prices. The council will also work to protect the local fishery and the integrity and autonomy of local guides from pirates and frauds.
